"Big" Business and Jobs. Say BIG One More Time.
Why is BIG used like it's still the 1800's? Remember BIG railroads? That was a BIG fallacy too if you look into the BIG interference that led to the perceived BIG problems. Are there really that many people out there that can be so easily swayed by such a disingenuous label? It appears so. So I guess they are saying that if something is big and successful it must be bad and evil. It's big, you're small, big is bad? Big is power? Powerful people or companies must make you less powerful, so I guess you shouldn't like them. Help me out here. I am really baffled by this one. Think about this. Many will actually believe in some way that because something is BIG, it's bad. BIG, is arguments gone wild.
Basically, using BIG just seems to be another in a long list of rallying cries designed for one purpose, to spur negative emotions, so maybe someone gets something for nothing or so they can meet an agenda. There would be no other reason for these people to use the word as they do, because it is truly meaningless when used to describe anything other than the size of something. If someone attempts to explain their side, but what they are trying to explain or convince you of is something so illogical that it is beyond rational explanation, that is when they reduce themselves to the labeling method of arguing and influencing.
The next time you hear someone place a meaningless label like BIG on anything, know that you are not dealing with someone playing above the table. Meaningless labels are out there in droves, especially in the realm of politics, our least favorite subject. Sadly, labels do work on the masses, because many people are lazy thinkers, easily influenced, not objective, and they have been conditioned from very early on to think a certain a way. Many are desperate to use anything at their disposal, like labels, to blame everyone and everything, except themselves. If that is you, you are better than that.
So besides BIG government, BIG everything else, including BIG business, has done nothing but immeasurably improved the lives and standard of living for those so fortunate to be in society that still partially cares about such a thing. The only thing I've seen "big business" do is to provide people with more options to trade their education, experience, training, and intellectual capital with in order to have a nice productive life.
Do you know why we are so fortunate to have BIG business? Why you're not living in a 400 square foot cement walled apartment taking public transportation to work? Because the founders of this country had BIG ideas and BIG dreams. Since at the time they were experiencing what BIG gets you, they decided enough is enough. Anyone under 25 may not know this story, or they may have heard a distorted version of the events. I guess this bothers some still to this day, because many are working very diligently to undo what has brought untold prosperity to 100's of millions who have taken advantage of this precious gift. Me? I'm actually a big proponent of Government, when used for its intended purpose.
At least you now know, if you didn't already, that the next time you hear or read something with the word BIG, or any other illogical emotion enducing label in front of it, you are about to hear or read something that you should be highly suspect of. Someone is trying to sell you something, not on the merits of its features and benefits, but solely by emotion. You know what buying on emotion gets you.
How do you not like BIG anyway? I like a BIG meal, a BIG car, a BIG house, a BIG paycheck, a BIG game, a BIG yard (not really), and I especially like a BIG kiss from the Mrs. Now go out and stop using BIG as an excuse and rationalization for anything. Distance yourself from those who would reduce themselves to arguing in this way. Know that when you do hear them, and all of the other labels that get bandied about, whoever is using them doesn't think much of your ability to think.
